DOJ report finds multiple instances of anti-Christian government bias

A report released by the Task Force to Eradicate Anti-Christian Bias, established by President Donald Trump and led by Attorney General Pam Bondi, alleges multiple instances of anti-Christian bias in federal policies under the Biden administration. Obtained exclusively by Fox News Digital, the report details findings from an initial review of federal agencies and outlines recommendations to protect religious liberties.

The task force, created via a February executive order, aims to identify and address “unlawful and improper conduct, policies, or practices that target Christians.” The report emphasizes a commitment to ensuring that “the federal government will never again be permitted to turn its power against people of faith” and pledges to treat all religions equally under the law. It asserts that “the days of anti-Christian bias in the federal government are over. Faith is not a liability in America—it is a liberty.”

Allegations of Bias Across Federal Agencies

The task force’s preliminary findings highlight several federal agencies, alleging they engaged in practices that unfairly targeted Christians during the Biden administration.

At the Department of Justice (DOJ), the report claims the Biden administration prosecuted approximately two dozen individuals under the Freedom of Access to Clinic Entrances (FACE) Act for praying or demonstrating outside abortion clinics but failed to apply the same law to protect places of worship and pregnancy resource centers from attacks. The report also points to a lack of effort to address violations involving anti-Christian bias by perpetrators.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) is cited for a 2023 memo, later retracted, that labeled “radical-traditionalist” Catholics as potential domestic terrorism threats, prompting concerns about surveillance of religious communities. At the Treasury Department, the report alleges that pro-Christian organizations faced “debanking,” a practice where financial institutions deny services based on ideological grounds.

The Department of Education is accused of imposing significant fines—$14 million on Liberty University and $37.7 million on Grand Canyon University—allegedly due to their Christian affiliations.

The Department of Homeland Security’s Customs and Border Protection is noted for omitting Christian perspectives from a detainee directive while including accommodations for Islam, Rastafarianism, and sects of Judaism. At the Department of State, the task force found that Christian employees were less likely to receive leave for religious holidays compared to non-Christian employees and faced pressure to adopt practices like preferred pronouns and rainbow flag displays, which some viewed as conflicting with their religious beliefs.

The Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) is criticized for removing social media posts celebrating Christian holidays like Palm Sunday, Good Friday, and Easter while retaining posts for other religious and cultural observances, such as Pride Month, Ramadan, and Diwali. The report also claims the Department of Defense, Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, and Department of Labor mishandled or denied religious exemptions to the Biden administration’s COVID-19 vaccine mandate.

Ongoing Investigation and White House Faith Office

The task force, which held its first meeting in April, is continuing its review and plans to issue a final report by February 2026. The report stresses that its work is ongoing, aiming to fully investigate the scope of alleged anti-Christian bias during the Biden administration.

In addition to the task force, President Trump signed an executive order in February to establish a White House Faith Office under the Domestic Policy Council. Led by Rev. Paula White-Cain, the office seeks to empower faith-based organizations and consult with religious leaders to align policies with American values.

Critics, including the Freedom From Religion Foundation and the Interfaith Alliance, have raised concerns about the task force, arguing it may prioritize Christian interests over others, potentially undermining the constitutional separation of church and state.

Rachel Laser, president of Americans United for Separation of Church and State, stated, “Rather than protecting religious beliefs, this task force will misuse religious freedom to justify bigotry, discrimination, and the subversion of our civil rights laws.”

Supporters, however, argue the initiative addresses legitimate grievances, pointing to data from the Survey Center on American Life indicating that 60% of white evangelical Christians in 2023 felt discriminated against, up from 42% in 2009.

A former Biden administration official did not immediately respond to requests for comment. The task force’s findings have sparked debate over the balance between protecting religious freedom and ensuring equal treatment for all faiths under the law.
