White House working to pick up the pieces after the release of poor post-debate polls

The 2024 presidential election could be one for the ages. Americans are eagerly anticipating how it will play out.

But now the White House is working night and day to pick up the pieces after poor post-debate polls were released.

A poll sponsored by a Democratic group has revealed that President Joe Biden is trailing former President Donald Trump by an average of 4 points across six key swing states after the first presidential debate.

Trump’s advantage over Biden in Pennsylvania, Georgia, Michigan, Arizona, Wisconsin, and Nevada ranged from 1 to 6 points.

The poll indicated Trump had the strongest lead in Nevada, while he narrowly surpassed Biden in Michigan.

Most of these results were within the poll’s margin of error of plus or minus 3 points.

The survey was conducted by Democrats for the Next Generation, an organization focused on promoting emerging Democratic leaders, in collaboration with Emerson College.

The polling took place between June 30 and July 2, with 1,000 respondents from each of the six states.

A notable 61% of those surveyed said that Biden’s debate performance made them feel he is too old to be an effective president.

This comes amid growing concerns from several Democratic members of Congress, political analysts, and news organizations about Biden’s competency, with some urging him to step aside for a younger candidate.

The poll also found that if Biden were replaced by a younger, qualified candidate, that person would outperform Trump by 6%. Such a candidate would surpass Biden’s performance by 20%.

However, this poll’s findings differ from other post-debate surveys.

For example, the Bloomberg News-Morning Consult tracking poll released on Saturday showed Biden leading Trump in Wisconsin and Michigan.

The Biden campaign highlights additional polls, including those by Morning Call, Reuters, and CBS News, which suggest the debate had little impact on voter support.

“Our internal polling to date shows virtually no movement in the race in battleground states post-debate, and 2020 Biden supporters that disapproved of his debate performance are still with him,” a Biden campaign spokesperson told the Washington Examiner.

Democrats for the Next Generation has been promoting prominent Democrats like Gov. Gretchen Whitmer (MI) and Gov. Gavin Newsom (CA), both of whom are considered potential replacements for President Biden.

The organization has committed $2 million to fund “mini-primary” debates among qualified Democratic presidential candidates.

Despite the rising calls for new leadership, Biden, the White House, and his campaign team are unwavering.

In a show of defiance on Monday morning, the president called into Morning Joe and challenged Democrats who want him to step down as the party’s nominee and who want run against him at the August convention in Chicago.
